Our history
Steel has been a family affair for four generations
The history of Acciaitubi is the history of the Berera family, which has operated in the steel sector for a century now. A history of vision, dedication, passion and entrepreneurial spirit.
The expansion of production facilities, the growth of exports and the provision of ever-improving customer service have rendered Acciatubi a solid and constantly-growing company, capable of promptly responding to the ever-changing challenges of the market and looking towards the future with optimism and confidence, without forgetting its origins.
1915
Commander Giovanni Berera founded “Metallurgica Berera” in Lecco, a city fated to link its name and destiny to the processing of steel and its derivatives. The company produced barbed wire for the Italian Army.
1940
Engineer Bruno Berera joined the company, bringing his pioneering spirit and contributing to the growth of the company, going through a phase of great expansion with the expansion of the Lecco plant and the opening of “Berera Sud di Bari” and “Metallurgica Nazionale di Roma”.
1960
Metallurgica Berera made a further quantum leap and became a major shareholder of the joint-stock company Acciaieria e Ferriera del Caleotto, expanding its activities and further cementing its ties with the area.
1961
The year Acciaitubi S.p.A. was founded. Inspired by Engineer Bruno Berera, a new facility was built in Terno d’Isola across an area of 70,000 square metres, 19,000 of which were indoors.
1964
On 23ʳᵈ May, the new plant was inaugurated in the presence of important national authorities: Archbishop Mons. Gassi, Sen. Pezzini, Sen. Zinca, Undersecretary Hon. Bellotti and the Minister of Industry at the time, Giuseppe Medici, who presided over the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
1980
The first hot-dip galvanising lines were installed, an innovative process that brings numerous environmental and quality advantages. The industrial settlement also grew, with the addition of further 5,000 square metres of warehouses.
1990
Under the leadership of Marco Berera, Acciaitubi undertook a decisive industrial and commercial transformation. With his direction, the third generation worked towards a clear and ambitious vision, launching a major investment plan. The installation of a new roll-forming line and the expansion of production capacity marked a turning point for the company, consolidating its presence in international markets and establishing its name as a partner of reference at a global level, combining industrial scrupulousness, quality and reliability.
2015
Acciaitubi continued on its growth path, investing in new production technologies. State-of-the-art painting equipment – both epoxy-powder and water-based – was installed, along with new knurling lines. Constant attention to the quality of materials and products was integrated with the evolution of market demands, strengthening the company’s positioning in the national and international arena.
2023
Giulia and Matteo Berera joined their father Marco at the helm of Acciaitubi, marking the entry of the fourth entrepreneurial generation. The commitment to environmental sustainability was strengthened, the digitisation and automation of production processes were accelerated and the development strategy towards new, high-potential European and international markets was expanded.
2025 Production was expanded once more to address an evolving market.
Acciaitubi completed a new factory extension of 4,000 square metres in additional covered area plus activated a major investment plan. The installation of a new roll-forming line, designed for the production of larger diameter tubes, along with a new powder coating line, allowed the company to respond even more effectively and competitively to the demands of a constantly-changing market.
